Choosing The Best Choice (Part 1)On October 7, 2020 by Kari
Life is made up of a bunch of choices. Everyday we are surrounded by choices that effect every aspect of our lives. Some choices are big and others are small but they are still choices.
Making The Choice
Six years ago we made one of the toughest choices we’ve ever made. We chose to pack up our family of 4 from our childhood home of Colorado and move to Oklahoma.
This move was a tough choice that we didn’t make easily. In Colorado we were barely surviving. Jeremiah had been working long hours trying to build a business. He rarely saw the kids and we never had quality time together. This was the first step to embracing this idea of “Focusing On What Matters”.
We knew we were not devoting the time we wanted to our family. Making a change was important but what needed to change? We had many discussions about options that we could make and moving was one of them. When Jeremiah’s sister offered to let us live in her rental house for a year free, we jumped on the chance. Finally, choosing to uproot our family to Oklahoma was the choice we needed to make.
Our Needs Over Others
We knew people wouldn’t understand. Choosing to leave everyone and everything we’d ever known behind was tough. It would be hardest on family that was used to seeing us regularly. Our family had to find what priorities meant the most to us. Building a strong family unit with quality time all together was our main objective. When you really start thinking about what matters most to YOU, life starts to align on a path you couldn’t never imagine.
Making tough choices hasn’t ended at this point, as I’m sure they probably never will. We’ve made more along the way and I’m sure there will be plenty more in the future. Past choices have been hard to make in the moment. Looking back at those choices, knowing where they have lead us, makes future choices a little easier to make. I know choices won’t always be easy. I’ve learned that knowing what matters most makes future choices look bright! Having a clear idea of what you want life to look like helps you make the right choices.
